Position Description

-Responsible for review of engineering designs and development of flammability substantiation data to demonstrate compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
-Specifically this role is to support the Interior Structures Business Unit in the qualification, testing and certification of major aircraft interior commodities, and provide technical support for ongoing continued airworthiness.
-Role may include complex assignments such as managing several projects simultaneously in a schedule intensive environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

-Contributes to successful project completion by participating in the review of designs, regulatory/customer requirements, and qualification plans while developing substantiation data documentation to support project goals.
-Prepares flammability test drawings, test plans, test reports, and qualification documents.
-Reviews engineering design changes and prepares change-based documentation for flammability compliance.
-Candidate is required to possess a working level knowledge of fire property regulations including; 14CFR 25.853, and OEM requirements for smoke and toxicity.
-Candidate is required to possess a working level knowledge of FAA policy related to acceptable methods of compliance (MOC’s) for flammability.
-Supports fire properties testing including coordination for internal and external laboratory tests (Bunsen burner, Heat Release, Smoke Density and Toxicity).
-Work with customer design engineers, subject matter experts and FAA authorized Representatives to establish acceptable showing of compliance for flammability.
-Basic knowledge and proficiency with team center (or related product data management system), including familiarity with aerospace drawing/document control systems for change management.
-Ability to work in a cross-functional manner with design, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, program management, and customer during product/data development to ensure all aspects are considered from the outset.
-This role reports to – M&P, Flammability Engineering Lead and Certification Manager.
-Travel requirement – up to 10% both internationally and domestically.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree from a four year university or college and minimum of 5 years of experience that demonstrates:
- Knowledge of basic material characteristics, flammability of materials.
- Ability to interpret material and fabrication process specifications for non-metallic structure.
- Basic knowledge of composite manufacturing methods, vacuum forming, injection molding, composite materials, bonding, trim and finish.
