JOB DUTIES: Provide Deaf Interpretation and Transliteration for deaf and hard of hearing employees. support staff meetings, team meetings, training and other requests by the employees or managers to enhance communication and understanding. Coordinate Deaf Interpreter support for ad hoc meetings and training requirements that need additional support. Work with outside organizations to secure interpreter services as necessary.
Work with more senior HRG or manager to facilitate communication to ensure all views are represented.
JOB SKILLS:
-Ability to Interpret between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English in both sign-to-voice and voice-to sign
-Ability to Transliterate between English-based sign language and spoken English in both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign
-Code of Ethics as set forth by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), Inc.
-Good organizational abilities
-Good communication skills
-Limited use and application of basic HR principles, theories, and concepts
Primary Interface: Interacts primarily with managers of deaf and hard of hearing employees, deaf and hard of hearing employees and HR personnel within the group.
-3+ years working as a Certified Sign Language Interpreter
-Interpreter must have any national certification or any RID level, or CI or CT or NIC level, or hold a State interpreter certificate
-Knowledge in ASL and Deaf/Hard of Hearing Cultures
-Knowledge and Fluency in a variety of communication methods - ASL and English
-Ability to use videophones & schedule interpreters
-Fluency in written and spoken English
-Bachelor's Degree and up to 2 years¿ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
12+ months — possible extension and possible FTE opportunity.
