Position Description
**This position will be on a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.**
Evaluates parts, materials, processes, technology or equipment through research and testing to ensure safety, reliability and adherence to requirements and specifications. Analyzes failed parts and processes to reduce or eliminate future failures. Generates test plans, identifies and categorizes failures, determines root cause and documents results and recommendations. Proposes, develops and validates revisions to procedures and specifications. Determines suitability of parts, materials and processes. Determines suitability of parts, materials and processes and coordinates resolution of issues with suppliers and customers. Supports continuous improvement of products and processes by designing, developing, fabricating, testing, evaluating and implementing new concepts and technology. Provides knowledge and technical consultation to internal and external customers.
Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
Knowledge of assembly and production processes, manufacturing capabilities associated with composite and polymer, and data needed for defining delivery configurations (e.g., design definition, program directives, engineering drawings, change memos, supplier data). Ability to differentiate production (manufacturing) processes and requirements from in-service procedures and requirements.
Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design).
Knowledge and understanding of composite and polymer laboratory protocols and procedures.
Knowledge of materials and processing for polymers and composites (e.g. molding, forming, lay-up, co-curing, co-bonding, infusion, repair, surface preparation).
Knowledge of polymers and composite materials (such as carbon, fiberglass, aramid, adhesives, thermoset/thermoplastic resins).
Must have advanced experience with Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.
