Instructional Designer

Position Description:

***Travel Required - Up to 40% of the time.***

Position Purpose:
Working closely with the Manager of Compliance & Technical Training develops, enhances and updates the curriculum for all Company training courses in order to achieve departmental and company wide training objectives. Programs developed focus on all types of development needs of the company. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating and development of training and development programs for the entire company. Directs and coordinates preparation, development, and use of educational material.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
1) Confers with internal customer to obtain knowledge of subject areas, and to relate curriculum materials to specific subjects, individual needs, and occupational areas. Serves as internal consultant and project leader for same instructional design/training related initiatives.

2) Works with other members of the training department to design training programs based on accelerated and adult learning principles, using state-of-the-art training techniques.

3) Responsible for design, development and editing of assets for both audio and visual communication such as voice over recordings, podcasts, technical drawings, photographs and videos.

4) Responsible for course layout, content and presentation in coordination with team and subject matter experts.

5) Facilitates, trains instructors on revised/new course content.

6) Works with internal customers or other members of the training department to determine if the proposed training solution is truly a training problem or is instead a performance, process, or resource problem.

7) Analyzes training needs, develops and administers training plans or programs. Utilizes wide range of media tools (CBT, video conferencing, and intranet) to design and distribute course materials to decentralized organization. Reviews educational materials such as video tapes, slides, and programmed texts for educational content, and recommends acquisition of materials that meet the company standards.

8) Advises staff members in techniques and methods of developing and evaluating specialized materials and instructional units.

9) Organizes and implements use of new instructional systems and data media storage along with training others how to utilize the systems and storage.

10) Obtains feedback on course effectiveness and recommends and implements modifications as needed. Responsible for evaluating the success of training effectiveness and return on investment

11) Applies best practices for capturing and editing high-quality audio and video digital assets, and manages those assets for optimized playback and storage.

12) Utilizes social media tools to deliver global learning like wiki, blogs, internal facebook, twitter, u-tube and other modes of e-learning.

Additional Functions:
1) Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Training contacts

2) Travel required approximately 40 percent.

Other Requirements:
1) Consulting and project management skills, familiarity with a wide variety of training media and a strong foundation in needs assessment, adult learning principles, behavior modeling and competency assessment required.

2) To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software, Adobe Software, Spreadsheet software, Design software and Project Management software.

3) Apple and PC experience.

Experience/Education:
- Bachelors degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Masters degree preferred.Three years experience in a training environment.
- Must demonstrate competencies in building relationships in adult education, and have exceptional writing and presentation skills.

Requirements:

Unique Skills:
Familiar with Web optimization techniques. Experience with CBT authoring tools such as Captivate, Camtasia, Lectora, Toolbook, etc. Experience interfacing with an Learning Management System (LMS) such as Sumtotal. Story-boarding and script-writing experience. Comfortable with PC or Mac environments. Good follow-through and customer-relationship skills.
