Position Description

Position Purpose:
The IT Infrastructure Architect is responsible for the architectural design and oversight of the central Information Technology enterprise. Researches, designs and implements new leading edge technologies utilizing best practices as well as architectural standards governance in support of the current enterprise infrastructure with the foresight and agility to anticipate future needs of the User Community.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Creates information architectures and designs and configures complex enterprise solutions based on the business requirements.
2. Documents the as-is infrastructure architecture, works within an infrastructure team to then map future requirements to the as-is architecture.
3. Provides thought leadership in crafting the to-be infrastructure architecture. Includes the development of standards and transition plans to bridge current state into desired future state.
4. Ability to diagnose and identify system and infrastructure efficiency improvements or areas for innovation based on current service requirements.
5. Works with IT application architects and enterprise architects to identify infrastructure requirements to satisfy business needs.
6. Confers with infrastructure and project management personnel to obtain information on limitations and capabilities of existing system and capabilities required for projects and projected work load.
7. Conducts technical evaluations and performs cost/benefit analysis.
8. Plans work and projects using project management techniques.
9. Maintains a current knowledge of technology within the infrastructure area and continually evaluates its impact on company objectives and deployed systems.
10. Defines Infrastructure Strategy.
11. Defines Disaster Recovery, High Availability and fault tolerance system requirements to meet the business systems availability requirements.
12. Understands and maintains Security measures and configurations with current standards, practices, & technology.

Additional Functions:
1. Serve as liaison with suppliers.
2. Assists with evaluation and recommendations regarding purchased software packages, hardware platforms and supporting services.
3. Assists with establishment and refinement of technical standards and hardware standards

Requirements

Unique Skills:
The Network Architect is responsible for creating a world-class platform wide architecture and design of the local and wide area networks that provides a highly-available, secure, reliable and efficient access for all network clients (infrastructure) and datacenter locations supporting company applications and data. The Network Architect will develop and orchestrate the planning and implementation of the core enterprise network strategies, architectures, decisions and actions in support of strategic IT business initiatives. The Network Architect is responsible for engaging cross-functional teams (apps development, service owners, project management office) and vendors to understand requirements, technologies and capabilities that define and enable the network architecture and proposed solutions. Additionally, the Architect will collaborate with the IT infrastructure group to create and maintain a roadmap to select and deploy technology solutions. Critical to the success of the role is the Network Architect's ability to collaborate with and influence development/sustaining teams across the organization.

• 8 - 10 years of experience in networking architecture roles with specialization in LAN, WAN, data center network design, operations and architecture. Prior experience architecting and designing global datacenter networks.
• Must possess networking technical certifications in the areas specified, preferably Cisco Certified.
• Experienced thought leader in the global network and edge architecture space. Has led efforts to define, advocate, select, and deliver next generation network architectures.
• Prior experience in creating architecture documentation, standards documentation, and design template documentation of all new architecture decisions.
• Must have experience in defining network management standards and have worked with appropriate technical teams on the implementation and delivery to prod and non-prod environments.
• Experience leading the adherence to the set of company-wide network infrastructure standards and practices.
• Expert knowledge and experience with networking technologies including routing (BGP), switching (VLAN, VTP), VPN (IPsec) and WAN (MPLS, Quality of Service) and website load balancing concepts/design.
• Expert in designing and implementing core application services including NTP, DNS and DHCP
• Experienced in implementing network monitoring and instrumentation.
• Strong familiarity with datacenter technologies including servers, shared storage, common web scale architectures.
• Have researched emerging technologies and equipment; developed technical specifications for new products and services.
• Experience/Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks and processes. (TOGAF, FEA, etc.)

Other Requirements:
1. A credit history check from a national credit bureau will be conducted for all candidates for this position including new hires and current employees seeking promotion or transfer.
2. IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) exposure is highly preferred.
3. Experience of large-scale transformation and migration projects.
4. Prior experience in complex and virtualized multi-OS environments. VMware ESX, AIX, Windows OS, and Linux desirable.
5. Ability to solve problems quickly and completely. Ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate them. Ability to work on own with minimal oversight.
6. Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of explaining simple procedures in writing or verbally; good phone skills. Capable of writing proposals, making presentations to customers and professional peers, working closely with upper management. Capable of pulling together multiple individuals representing multiple disciplines and guiding the team to a single solution.
7. Provides technical direction for IT organization
