Position Description

Perform database design, modification, development, security, backup, tuning, and maintenance activities in support of computing systems in the Commercial Aviation Services Group. Analyze and resolve application performance issues in coordination with customers and other Database Administrators (DBA). Ensure integration of SOW requirements and project plans between major project activities. Document processes and procedures and ensure compliance with EDMs database standards, practices and methodologies inclusive of security, hardware, software, and configuration management.

The job requires experience with Oracle RDBMS 10g and 11g, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Oracle Performance Tuning, SQL, PL/SQL and knowledge of UNIX operating system internals, familiarity with shell scripting. Desired experience includes a working knowledge of Oracle Backup/Recovery (RMAN), Oracle on Linux, RAC, Oracle Replication (Streams and Golden Gate). Knowledge of SQL Server is also desirable.

The nature of the work requires periodic unscheduled (on-call) support outside normal business hours. Carrying a pager, cell phone, and laptop may be required to ensure contact during these periods.


JOB SKILLS: Prefer bachelor's degree in computer science or MIS/IS or equivalent. The candidate must have nine years of experience with Oracle RDBMS as a DBA. Must have strong written and oral English communication skills. Must have the ability to draft complex documents using technical language required by the job. Requires the ability to use applicable computing disciplines (change management, problem solving, performance, and operational management; etc.) to ensure that customer database requirements are met in a cost-effective manner that complies with company and regulatory requirements. Must have strong customer service skills, ability to use tact and diplomacy, and to work effectively within a team. Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work in a fast paced environment. Position requires off-hours support of 7X24 environments and participation in an off-hour/weekend duty rotation. Requires ability to deal with others in potentially stressful situations in a courteous, patient, and professional manner. Must have strong analytical skills and effective interpersonal communication. Must have the ability to plan, prioritize, and organize time to work both productively and efficiently as well as maximize the quantity and quality of work. The successful applicant will be highly motivated, creative, and a hard working self-starter and be able to integrate well into a high performance team.
