Position Description
SUMMARY Prepares the estimated costs to process machined parts so that sales and management can make business decisions on what the product should be sold for as well as evaluate capacity and capital constraints when the business is awarded.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Evaluate product to be cost assessed with sales, engineering and design for feasibility to process machined parts and how the product is to be quoted to the customer.
- Work with the Catia, Cam Works and Master Cam to develop the necessary tooling line up.
- Works with General Manager and Plant Manager to develop process flow, manning and cycle times, as required to prepare the quotation for Sales.
- Calculates the material weights and usages utilizing metric conversions for all the required processes.
- Determines and develops packaging and shipping costs as required.
- Prepares and qualifies the required capital, costs and amortization.
- Gathers monthly operating costs data and sets up the labor and burden costs for the cost estimating process.
- Maintain on going costs for formulations and correlates data in the system.
- Assists plants with data entry from quotes into the system setting up BOMS and routers.
- Work in preparing costs and what if cost evaluations.
- Prepare capacity and manning evaluations as required.
- Continuously evaluating cost estimating data and work sheet forms and make necessary changes as required.
- Support AS-9100 initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings and blue prints.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the aerospace machining industry with a minimum of 5 years of experience
- Must have Catia and Mastercam experience.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of metric system.
- Must have working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.
- Must be able to qualify for security clearance for a Federal background check.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Requires a High School diploma; and a minimum of five (5) years cost estimating experience in the aerospace machining industry
TRAVEL
Ability to travel out of state for training as needed
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Requires analytical knowledge; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and enforce an extensive variety of legal and regulatory publications. Ability to interpret technical publications. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Cost estimating and related fields highly desired.
