Position Description:

Propulsion lab activities involve laboratory and aircraft ground testing, and the development and maintenance of propulsion related test facilities to support airplane design, development, certification, research and technology development, delivery, after sales support, and accident investigations. Activities are primarily focused on testing of nacelle and low speed aerodynamic models, fuel systems, fuel properties and liquid flow meter calibrations, fire extinguishing and flammability of materials. Laboratory and test facilities supported include the 9X9 Low Speed Wind Tunnel (BPWT), Fuel Test Facility, Fuel Properties and Fuel Flow Calibration Facility, the Hazardous Test Facility (Fire), and the Nozzle Test Facility (NTF) located at the Propulsion Laboratory at North Company Field as well as the capability to perform various types of these tests at remote facilities. This position is for a test engineer who is responsible for turning business partner requirements into test plans and test procedures, defining required test fixturing and setups, ordering materials, coordinating test setups, conducting/supporting test execution, providing test reporting and project management. Detailed activities include the following summary list. Supports the development and verification of test methods. Develops detailed test procedures, and instrumentation and configuration definition, needed to perform the test and minimize risk within the constraints of the test plan. Designs test hardware, software and systems to achieve test requirements. Analyzes, processes, and formats data to customer requirements. Reviews test data, including off-nominal data, for accuracy, quality and/or fidelity prior to delivery to customer. Prepares and publishes test reports to document test results and satisfy requirements. Presents test results internally. Archives data and reports. Works under general direction.

Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in test or related engineering discipline or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in test or related engineering discipline. The successful completion of the above tasks is dependent on the engineering knowledge of the principles that underlies each type of test activity. Candidates should possess basic knowledge in the following areas of engineering. Fluid dynamics (incompressible and compressible flows), thermodynamics and heat transfer, basic aerodynamics, and general structural basics. Candidates will need to be able to function independently on tasks that require a high degree of attention to detail with limited guidance to support assigned testing and process development tasks.
