Position Description:

The majority of the work will be creating, modifying or updating CREO2 models and drawings for AR1 and RS-25, from existing assembly level combustion devices and or valve designs. Additional support at effectively processing these models and drawings through Company data management system, design and drawing check, and also through the final engineering release process is highly beneficial. Therefore, specific knowledge with AR’s Windchill data management and drawing release system is preferred.

Furthermore, under minimal supervision, performs engineering design assignments requiring a wide application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the field plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines. Performs as an emerging authority in the Designer/Design Verification organization.

Typical responsibilities include: Provides imaginative, thorough, and practicable solutions to a wide range of technical design problems. Conceives and plans projects involving the development of new methods to attain objectives. Performs design calculations to validate any phase of design requirements. Provides data in support of contract data requirements list (CDRL) submittals. Participates in preliminary and critical design reviews, data reviews, and product reviews, recommending and initiating changes as necessary. Expert within area of design principles/processes, geometric tolerance, and design tools used throughout the operation. Responsible for assuring that design/design verification results are attained within project budget and schedule. Responsible for escalating in a timely manner when commitment dates of assigned and individual work cannot be met.

Provide technical guidance to less senior designers and design support personnel. Assess new design/design verification tasks and assist in manpower/resource planning activities. Assign work to and provide technical direction to drafters, level II and II designers, and design support personnel as required. Work is reviewed at extended intervals. Responsibilities may include review of others work for adequacy in meeting objectives. Failure to get results may result in project delays and considerable expenditure of resources. Inter-organizational, resident customer contacts, and outside customer contacts are frequent in providing solutions to technical problems associated with specific assignment.

Supporting engineering development tasks may also required, which can include creating and or modifying process procedures involved in test and hardware validation chack-outs.
Requirements:


Bachelors degree in an appropriate discipline and 14+ years of related technical experience as engineering designer, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5 years of rocket propulsion design experience preferred.

Extensive knowledge in Creo 2 with both model and drawing generation. Knowledge with Company's site Windchill release system is essential. Design knowledge with rocket engine hardware; such as Valves, Nozzles, Combustion Chambers, Preburners, Gas Generators and Powerhead configurations is preferred. The majority of the work will be developing CREO2 models and drawings from existing assembly models.

Furthermore, effective interpersonal and communication skills.Operate effectively in a team environment. Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and related specifications. Ability to write clearly and concisely. Understanding of appropriate codes, regulations and specifications as well as applicable customer requirements. Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAM) methods and techniques. Knowledge of design practices, manufacturing techniques and inspection requirements. May require the use of various computer systems to produce data, analysis and reports.
