Position Description:
As primary point of contact, is responsible and accountable for all aspects of a Service Center Aircraft Welding, Machining and Tool Modification to include pre-planning, project management and manpower allotment.
Essential Functions: 1.Setup and proficiently operate tool shop machinery and equipment to build, modify, and repair a wide range of tools from Engineering and/or Tool Design drawings. Lead one to two subordinates while performing other duties.
2.Plan and lay out work from Engineering, Tool Design drawings, and from specific manuals.
3.Coordinate interrelated tooling along with primary task.
4.Perform all calculations of material and machine cutters (speeds & feeds). 5.Set up and use precision measuring tools and check own work for conformance to specifications.
6.Set up and conduct tool prove out on new and reworked tools.
7.Fabricate or repair aircraft components as requested by Completion or Maintenance department technicians, APU shop technicians, or external customers.
8.Research materials and processes as required to ensure compliance with pertinent ANSI, AWS, FAA, Gulfstream and/or Aircraft Manufacturer standards.
9.Complete required internal and FAA paperwork such as work order sign-offs, FAA forms 8130-3 Airworthiness Approval Tag, and log-book entries or return to service authorizations when traveling to service customer aircraft.
10.Maintain and repair welding equipment. Order replacement parts as required.
11.Correctly use power and hand tools to cut, form, and otherwise prepare pieces for welding.
12.Posses a working knowledge of the Company Policies and Procedures Manual, Inspection Procedures Manual, and pertinent process specifications.
13.Make effective use of the Corridor system to enter labor against work orders, create purchase requisitions, review work orders, add items to work orders, and to sign off work orders.
14.Sets up machines to perform operations, computes angular dimensions where required, locates and lays out reference lines, center points, and lines. Plans the sequence of operations to be performed.
15.Determines the proper cutting tools required to perform machining task.
16.Selects the proper speed and feeds for conditions.
17.Performs complex machining tasks where the difficult nature of the part requires ingenuity, to improvise and adapt.
Additional Functions: 1.Keep shop and aircraft work areas clean and uncluttered. 2.Properly care for and maintain shop equipment and tools as assigned by Supervisor. 3.Comply with safety rules and procedures. 4.Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:
High school diploma (or equivalent). A dedicated effort at self-education, as aircraft-specific advanced welding instruction is not readily available at the trade-school level.Five (5) years machining and tooling experience and/or training. Extensive knowledge of metallurgy, metal working procedures, and welding processes and technology with regard to aircraft applications. See Other Requirements in Job Description.
Other Requirements: 1. Must be able to read and interpret blue prints, sketches and tool designs. 2. Must be able to apply shop mathematics including trigonometry functions. 3. Must be able to grind own cutting tools when required. 4. Must be well studied in the guidelines set forth by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the American Welding Society (AWS), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and pertinent Company process specifications. 5. Certified to MSD1595A, Fusion Welding for Aircraft and Aerospace Welders, as required by Company Process Specification 115.
