Investigates discrepancies in the use of tooling and fabrication processes. Initiates actions to correct, improve, adapt, maintain, and replace tools. Defines and implements or initiates alternative production methods for use by manufacturing until tools are available and functional. Creates and revises tool designs by interpreting and clarifying engineering data. Analyzes design requests to determine tool configuration and manufacturing requirements. Applies mechanical design and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing standards, manufacturing processes, and machining techniques. Creates a drawing or dataset using computer-aided design techniques and drafting standards and generates a materials list. Creates and uses digital preassembly models to confirm producibility and optimal production use. Ability to perform investigations and initiate resolutions to fabrication or production (tooling-related) concerns. Ability to interpret engineering data, analyze tool requests for tool configuration and manufacturing requirements, apply sound design and drafting standards in creating tool definition.
Apply tool design/engineering principles and technical knowledge to the support of composite production parts, handling and transportation tools utilizing company and government regulated policies, processes, procedures and safety requirements (e.g., overhead equipment, handling and transportation equipment, fiber placement mandrels, bond assembly jigs, etc.). Develop tool designs that include customer concepts and implement simple to complex tool design techniques necessary to manufacture, assemble, handle and transport products or tools. Conduct studies to identify cost effective methods and techniques to utilize new or lean manufacturing processes within tooling or manufacturing environment.
